You'll find instructions inside the book on how you can add fade-ins
and fade-outs to your sounds using Audacity.
Here's a small tutorial that shows you how you can record your
voice inside Audacity - this assumes that you already have Audacity
installed on your system, and that a microphone is also connected
to your computer.
- Make sure that your
microphone is selected as the default recording device.
Click your Windows Start menu and click the Control Panel option.
Next click the Sound and Audo Devices icon. If you cannot see the
Sound and Audio Devices icon in Control Panel, click the Switch
to Classic View option on the top left of the icon area (see screenshot
below). Now you should be able to see the Sound and Audio Devices
icon - double-click it to summon a dialog box of the same name.

- Select the Audio tab in the Sound and Audio Devices dialog
box, and make sure that the proper attached microphone is selected
in the Default device drop down box in the Sound ecording area
(see screenshot).

- Start Audacity - the program normally opens with a new file.
If it does not, just choose the File | New option. Click the
Red recording button and start narrating into the microphone
(see screenshot).

Click the Yellow stop button to stop recording.
- Check the recording
to make sure it has been narrated exactly in the way you require.
- Choose
File | Export as WAV and save it in the same folder as your PowerPoint
presentation (or anywhere else).
